Washington’s Wholesalers: The Economic Benefits
  • Revenue Collection -- Washington State’s wholesalers monitor alcohol shipments into and within the state ensuring that products are tracked and taxed appropriately. The critical oversight role they play ensures that Washington State has an accountable system of collecting alcohol taxes in the state.
  • Level Playing Field -- With a non-discriminatory pricing structure firmly in place, a Washington State wholesaler is obligated to sell the same product at the same price to all retailers. This policy allows smaller retailers to compete with larger retailers and prevents the larger ones from using their economic muscle to control the market.
  • Increased Market Access – With Washington’s distributors reaching every corner of the state, small brewers and small wineries have access to the entire marketplace and large producers are prevented from using their market dominance to force smaller ones out of business.
